Kashmiri youth forced to chant ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ slogans in Delhi, ‘Sheer fundemantalism’, says PDP

A group of youth in India’s capital city of New Delhi forced a Kashmiri youth into chanting slogans like “Vande Mataram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”.

The Kashmiri youth, in a video that’s viral on social media, says he does not understand the meaning of these slogans due to language barriers, and he refuses to chant them.

Instead of respecting the young man’s inability to understand the slogans, the group of youth accuse him of being a Pakistani and a Patharbaz (stone pelter), which is a term used to describe individuals who throw stones at security forces during protests in Kashmir.

Meanwhile, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Wing Coordinator for Central Kashmir, Zuhaib Yousuf Mir has expressed concern against the bullying of a Kashmiri by Hindu supremacists in Delhi, the video of which is viral on social media.

In a statement, he said it is important to bridge the trust deficit between Delhi and Kashmiris created especially from August 2019, but instead the right wing fundamentalists are hell bent to increase it by their childish but scary acts.

“Bullying a Kashmiri to chant certain slogans is nothing but an act of shamelessness,” Zuhaib said and demanded immediate action agaisnt those involved in the act.
