Kashmiris restricted from speaking about Gaza situation, says Mehbooba Mufti

Former Chief Minister and President of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, revealed on Monday that no final decision has been reached concerning the potential participation in Jammu  Kashmir elections alongside other parties.

She expressed this during her conversation with reporters in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, stating, “No decision has been taken about that so far,” when addressing the prospect of her party joining forces with the National Conference (NC) and Congress for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls.

Mufti also criticized the assertion that Jammu and Kashmir is in a state of normalcy, highlighting recent targeted attacks.

She questioned the definition of collateral damage, particularly in light of incidents like the encounter in Kokernag in September, where an Army Colonel, a Major, and a Deputy Superintendent of Police lost their lives.

Mufti challenged the restriction on freedom of expression and protest, drawing parallels with international events and condemning limitations on imams’ prayers for Gaza.

Furthermore, she criticized the ban on demonstrations and strikes for employees, deeming it unfortunate and contradictory to claims of normalcy in the region.
