Kishtwar Sarpanch Resigns Due to “Caste Discrimination”

The sarpanch of Halqa Pochhal panchayat of Kishtwar district of Jammu & Kashmir, Kamlesh Kumari, has resigned today due to continued incidents of “caste discrimination” against her and her family.

The Kashmiriyat was able to access the official resignation letter submitted by Kumari, in which she accused “upper-caste Hindus for sustained life threats.

“After bearing brunt of atrocities and hatred based on caste discrimination by upper-caste Hindus particularly towards Scheduled Caste and finding no safeguard from the upper caste Hindus i.e Block Development Chairman, Kishtwar, Suresh Sharma, BDO of Kishtwar Sheetal Sharma and JE RDD Block Kishtwar Vijay Parihar,” read Kumari’s resignation.

Kumar, in her resignation, claimed that she and her family had been a victim of sustained life threats and caste-based hatred.
