Kulgam ranks at top in monthly public health sector ranking in J&K released by Health department in March

Based on fourteen Key Performance Health indicators for the month of February, District Kulgam bagged the first rank in J&K with an overall District score of 77.25.

The objective of Janani Suraksha Yojana is to reduce maternal mortality rate (MMR) and neo-natal Mortality rate (NMR) through the promotion of institutional deliveries.

Under this program with its proper implementation District kulgam has made significant progress as the percentage of institutional deliveries is 99.67 percent with manifold decrease in maternal deaths to total deliveries.

As per the official figures under Sehat Scheme 64% of health-golden or sehat-cards have been issued to individuals in Kulgam district, covering 90% of the families.

In a bid to give a fillip to awareness about cancer prevention and the need for its early detection, District Kulgam implemented various programs and screened over 11 percent of the total population.

The District has achieved 100% immunization target of total target population.

Moreover, the district has witnessed 30% reduction in referrals from its institutions

It is pertinent to mention that Public Health is one of the priority areas for development.

As per the District Good Governance Index (DGGI) of J&K, under Public health sector, nine key indicators are identified looking at the outcomes like Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR), Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), immunisation achievement, etc. Measuring the performance of these critical indicators and comparing between the Districts provides an opportunity to design targeted intervention in lagging Districts.
