A teenage girl from the Odura Nillow area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district died under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday, a few hours after the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) announced the Class 12 annual regular exam results.

Local sources told The Kashmiriyat the girl (name withheld) was found found dead in her room on Wednesday evening after which was rushed to a nearby health facility where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

The incident occurred shortly after she reportedly learned that she had not qualified the examination.

JKBOSE declared the Class 12 results on Tuesday, recording an overall pass percentage of 75 percent.

Meanwhile, board officials said the results of the Class 10 annual regular exams are being finalized and are expected to be declared by 10 PM on Tuesday.

Incidents of student deaths related to exam outcomes are increasingly being reported across Kashmir. Mental health experts and educators have raised concerns about the rising academic pressure on students, especially during board examinations.

The constant fear of failure, coupled with limited support systems, is pushing many young minds to the edge.

Experts say a major contributor to this pressure is the culture of unhealthy competition, often amplified by local media outlets that rush to interview toppers and publicize high scores.

This glorification fuels unrealistic expectations among parents, who, in turn, transfer that performance pressure onto their children—sometimes with tragic consequences.
