Kupwara: Youth Dies in Failed Bid to Save a Drowning Elderly Woman

A 25-year-old youth succumbed to injuries, he sustained, while attempting to rescue a drowning woman in Chowkibal area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Official sources told GNS that an elderly woman purportedly lost balance and fell into nallah Kehmil while crossing it via a makeshift bridge in Chowkibal in Kralpora area. On noticing it, they said, a youth jumped into the nallah in a bid to rescue the drowning woman. He suffered serious injuries.

Later a rescue operation was started and both the drowning persons were recovered in unconscious condition, while the woman was dead instantly, the youth was shifted in critical condition but succumbed on way to sub-district hospital Kralpora, they said

The deceased have been identified as Subi Begium (60) wife of Mohd Sayed Awan resident of Rashanpora Kralpora  and Manzoor Ahmad Rance son of Mohd Yaqoob Rance resident of Khanbal Chowkibal.

Meanwhile a police official confirming the incident to GNS said that bodies of both the deceased persons have been handed over to the respective families for last rites after conduct of necessary formalities. (GNS)
