Ladakh Shuts Down Demanding Law to Bar Non-Locals from Government Jobs

The Kargil and Leh areas of Ladakh region on Friday observed a complete shutdown against ‘grave indiscrimination’ being done to the students in terms of government employment.

The shutdown call was issued by the students union of the Ladakh region, and it was later supported by various socio-religious groups from both Muslim and Buddhists of the region.

Sources told The Kashmiriyat that all shops and business establishments remained shut while traffic was majorly off the roads.

“The shutdown is aimed at sending out a message to the authorities that people in the region want a law that will bar outsiders to seek government jobs,” Locals said.

The Locals are demanding the implementation of a law to bar outsiders from seeking jobs in Ladakh.

Pertinently, the Indian Central Government on August 05, last year abrogated the special status of Jammu Kashmir, bifurcating the state into Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh. the special status, Article 370 barred Non-Kashmiris from seeking Government Jobs in the region, which has a huge population of unemployed youth.
