Lashkar Militants Likely Killed in Bijbehara Encounter

Six Militants have been killed in the Encounter that raged early morning in the Sekpora area of Bijbehara in South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) District on Friday.

Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that a top commander of Lashkar e Taiba who was has been killed along with his five associates mostly locals.

He said that three Militants have been identified as residents of South Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag ) District which includes a top Lashkar e Taiba commander from the district.

The Jammu Kashmir Police has said that based on a credible input about the presence of terrorists, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by Police and security forces at the onset of dawn today inside a jungle area of Sekipora at Bijbehara.

As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the terrorists. The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight.

In the process six terrorists were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter, Their identities and affiliation are being ascertained.

Incriminating materials including huge quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter.

Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the matter.

“We are clearing off the encounter site as of yet, the identity of the Militants is being ascertained,” the SSP of Islamabad (Anantnag), Altaf Khan told. (The Kashmiriyat).
