A youth from Baramulla district in North Kashmir in a viral video has appealed to the Police to stop “harassing” him.
Identifying himself as Danish Hussain from Baramulla, he said that he has been jailed several times from 2008 and 2021. “I have been constantly harassed since 2008. I have no affiliation with any separatist organization,” he said.
Four days ago, the Police raided my house and fearing arrest, I left my house, Danish is heard saying. “I want to live my life peacefully, If you (Police) have a problem with me, Please throw me out of the country,” Abid is heard pleading.
“Why is it that Police are constantly harassing me. Yes, I was involved in protests in 2008 and since then, I have been not involved in anything. I have been constantly booked under Public Safety Act. A few days ago I was in Chandigarh, the officials enquired about my presence in Chandigarh,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Jammu Kashmir Police issued a statement after his video went viral in which Abid said he was being harassed by the police.
The statement further stated that If the youth is being harassed, he is most welcome to come forward and provide his version. Instead, he has gone incognito and is giving out videos on social media. He can approach any authority he trusts.
“He was summoned to the police station for routine questioning as he is involved in multiple FIRs. He asked for a few minutes to add layers of warm clothing in front of his family and he jumped out and ran through a window,” the Police said.
Pertinently thousands of Kashmiri youth were booked under FIRs since 2008 and many of them still continue to be summoned to Police stations. Most of them claim that they have “no involvement” in protests afterward, however, they are constantly “summoned whenever a new official joins the district.”
