Major Who Lied on Shopian Fake Encounter Awarded Yudh Seva Medal

Katoch has been awarded the medal post inquiry that led to outrage on the fake encounter made by the army themselves. Brig. Katoch had made false claims, where he labeled the murdered three innocents as terrorists.

The brigadier briefed the media on July 18 on the encounter that raged in the Amshipora area of Shopian in Kashmir in July and soon after, the Government Forces said that three militants had been killed. Almost five families from Shopian whose sons are active Militants were called for identification of the Militants, however, all rejected the three being their Children.

He had said that the Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF reached the encounter site at 0430 Hrs, nearly two hours after the encounter had started. “At 0530 HRS, a search party moved inside a ‘newly constructed house’, when they came under heavy fire yet again, the Army retaliated, killing three Militants,” knowing full well that Captain Bhoopendra Singh had planned the fake encounter.

The Police has presented a charge sheet in which they said that one Major of the Indian Army staged the encounter along with his two local sources and planted the weapons on the bodies of the trio.
