Missing since March 2020, Militant who was NDA qualified and B.V. Sc student killed in Shopian encounter

Missing since March 2020, Nadeem Ahmed Rather, who was  a National Defense Academy (NDA) qualified and Bachelor of Veterinary Science (B.V. Sc) Graduate student from South Kashmir’s Kulgam and later joined militancy was killed during an encounter in the Shopian district of south Kashmir.

Earlier officials told The Kashmiriyat that 34 RR, Jammu Kashmir Police had jointly launched an anti militancy operation in the Badimarg area of Shopian district.

During the exchange of gunfire, one militant identified as Nadeem Ahmad Rather @Dr. Raja Nadeem, son of Abdul Rehman Rather, a resident of Ashmuji Kulgam who had been missing since March 27 after he left home for his routine work.

According to Nadeem’s cousin, Nadeem offered Friday prayers at home due to Covid restrictions. “However, after Nimaz, he left home and visited Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKAUST) to return books and didn’t return home.”

Days later, his photo appeared wearing a bullet proof, with an automatic rifle which also mentions that he had joined the militant outfit Hizb ul Mujahideen on March 27, 2020.
