Mirwaiz Umar Farooq disallowed to leave his house: Hurriyat

The Chairman of the Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday was disallowed to leave his residence by Government Force personnel stationed outside his house.

Pertinently, Mirwaiz Umar was on his way to deliver the Friday sermon at the Jamia Masjid today, just a week after Governor Sinha claimed that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was not under house arrest.

To this, the Hurriyat responded by saying, “If Mirwaiz was not under arrest, he should be allowed to offer Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid this Friday (26 August).”

Several journalists had also reached the residence of Mirwaiz Umar in Srinagar’s Nigeen, however, they were barred from entering his house or even meeting him.

“Breaking News: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been barred from leaving his residence by a posse of Indian Forces. He was on his way to deliver the Friday sermon at the Jamia Masjid today, just a week after Governor Sinha said he was ‘free,” Hurriyat said in a Tweet.

Pertinently, several media reports quoting unnamed sources had said that Mirwaiz will be allowed to offer Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid after three years.
