Modi Government blocks 35 YouTube channels, other social media accounts: Report

Modi government has blocked 35 more YouTube channels, Vikram Sahai, Joint Secretary (P&A), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said on friday.

According to news reports, on the basis of intelligence inputs, 35 YouTube channels, two Twitter, Instagram accounts, a website and one Facebook account have been blocked yesterday i.e. on January 20.

Earlier on January 19, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur had said that the government would continue to crack down on those “conspiring” against the country.

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry in December last year, ordered the blocking of 20 YouTube channels and two websites accused of spreading anti-India propaganda and fake news.

The ministry had said these channels were being used to “coordinately post divisive content on topics like Kashmir, Indian Army, minority communities in India, Ram Mandir, General Bipin Rawat etc”.
