Mehbooba Mufti, PDP President and the former CM of Jammu Kashmir alleged that she was once again barred from visiting the family of the boy, who committed suicide as the salary of his father was blocked for being ‘former-militant.’
“In J&K besides security COVID has become another excuse to prevent me from reaching out to people in distress. GOI wants to obfuscate the truth & brush such tragedies under the rug,” She tweeted.
In the video shared on Twitter, she alleged that on the pretext of security and corona she was barred from visiting the family of Shoaib Bashir who ended his life by consuming poison as the salary of his schoolteacher father was stopped for more than two years.
Mehbooba Mufti lashed out at BJP led Government at the center that on the one hand, the Government is appealing to these youth to shun militancy and choose the path of peace and on the other hand, the people who have shunned violence and chose peace are being subjected to humiliation by the Government.
The salary of so many people has been blocked; so many people are under surveillance. The Government is humiliating these people in different ways, she said.
She also claimed that this isn’t an isolated incident, many employees in Kashmir are being subjected to harassment because of their history of militancy.
She also said, “the security reasons and COVID-19 are just excuses; the Government doesn’t want anyone to see the ongoing oppression of local people here. They don’t want it to be highlighted.”
She also alleged that the government has failed to reach out to the people in distress and is barring her from reaching to them also.
Shoaib Bashir had recorded a video before ending his life, in which he highlighted the plight of teachers like his father whose salaries have been stopped.
