A Muslim gym trainer from Mewat, Haryana was lynched to death by Hindu vigilante groups on Sunday night. The victim, Aasif Khan, was forced to chant “Jai Shree Ram”.

As per a report by Makhtoob Media, Aasif was travelling with his friends from Khalilpur, his village to Sohna, in order to get some medicines.

“A group of 15 stopped the car and started abusing the passengers. They shouted ‘maar mulle ko’— Kill Muslims— and lynched Khan”, Hasan Khan, Aasif’s uncle told.

His family tells that the Haryana Police has filed an FIR against the perpetrators under IPC 302, but no arrest has been made so far.

Aasif’s co-passengers, Rashid(31) and Wasif(22), were also assaulted but survived the attack. Although, Rashid remains in critical care.

“The mob hit the car from behind and when they stopped the car they hurled stones at the car. The other two escaped the attack but Khan was captured and lynched”, told Aasif’s uncle.

Khan was found dead in Nangli, a village on the outskirts of Haryana’s Sohna. Khan’s relatives told that there is a history of hostility between Khan and Hindu groups in his village.

Heavy police deployment was seen in Khalilpur village during the funeral of Aaasif Khan, on Monday. The family urged to pursue the case and remain calm.

Such incidents of lynching by Hindu militant groups are comme in Mewat, one of the most backward district in India. Mob lynching of Muslims and other minorities have seen a peak in India since 2014, the year Modi came to power.
