In Aligarh’s Quarsi area on Wednesday, June 3, a Muslim youth was stripped and beaten by members of Hindutva groups for allegedly speaking to a Hindu girl.
A video that went viral shows the youth shirtless and surrounded by a crowd. In the video, a man is heard accusing the youth of harassing his minor daughter for five years.
In a separate video, BJP Mayor Shakuntala Bharti is seen warning the administration to address so-called “love jihad” cases, threatening that they would take matters into their own hands if no action is taken.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) stated, “Upon receiving information about the harassment case, Quarsi police immediately arrived at the scene, initiated an investigation, and detained the man for questioning.”
The term ‘love jihad’ refers to a conspiracy theory promoted by far-right groups and some BJP leaders, claiming that Muslim men are marrying Hindu women to convert them to Islam forcibly. (With inputs from agencies)
