A 25-year-old Muslim youth, Mohammed Furqan, suffered severe injuries after being brutally assaulted by Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel at Janakpur Road Railway Station on Thursday.

The attack was so extreme that Furqan’s intestine burst through his stomach.

Furqan was at the station to bid farewell to his aunt, who was traveling to Mumbai. A dispute with another passenger led to the intervention of GRP officers, who began beating Furqan with sticks. Despite his desperate pleas to avoid hitting his recently operated abdomen, the officers continued to target the area, resulting in his stomach rupturing on the left side.

Furqan had undergone intestinal surgery two years prior, and the assault caused his surgical wounds to reopen. Videos showing Furqan’s intestine protruding from his stomach and the violent police beating have spread widely on social media, sparking public outrage.

Witnesses at the station, enraged by the GRP’s actions, vandalized the Janakpur Road station, breaking iron grills and glass gates at the main entrance to the station superintendent’s office. Several government employees were injured during the chaos.

SP (Railway) Muzaffarpur explained that the altercation started when police tried to resolve a dispute between two passengers over seating. Furqan’s surgical stitches were ripped open as he was pushed and shoved by the officers.

“Furqan is now receiving treatment and is stable. His statement suggests the incident stemmed from a scuffle between two groups, and the GRP used excessive force against him,” said the SP.

Two officers, Gyanendra Paswan and Gorelal Chaudhry, have been suspended pending further investigation. A thorough probe has been initiated, and appropriate measures will be taken based on the investigation’s findings.
