The recently approved National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 will help the youth acquire the skill-set necessary to survive in the 21st century India, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the inaugural address at the ‘Transformational Reforms in Higher Education under National Education Policy’ conclave.

The conclave was organised by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) to discuss key aspects of education covered under the new policy.

“Today the new education policy is widely discussed across the country. People from different fields, ideologies are giving their views and reviewing the policy. This is a healthy debate which will benefit the country’s education system. National Education Policy has been approved after long brainstorming sessions with millions of suggestions and after 3-4 years of extensive deliberations,” PM Modi said in his inaugural address.

“NEP has given special focus on the areas to ensure India as a superpower and is at the new heights of development and provide new opportunities. We need to make our students into global citizens and yet be rooted in their culture. The learning power of students will improve if the language they speak in and the language in which lessons are taught in school is the same. That is why we have recommended teaching in the mother tongue as soon as possible – at least class 5. This will strengthen their foundation,” said Modi.
