The Devsar area in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday observed a shutdown to protest against the lack of basic facilities in the area.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, the locals said that the area lacks all basic facilities including water, sanitation, roads, but the officials want to install ‘smart meters’ here in the area.

“They should avail us quality water, good roads and schools before installing the smart meters,” a local resident said.

They said that the people of the area are opposed to the idea of smart meters and they fail to understand the reason for the move. “Why are smart metres being installed? There is hardly any electricity in the area, despite which people are paying electricity fees,” he said.

Meanwhile, the area observed a token shutdown to protest against the proposed move of installation of smart metres in the area.
