Machil sector is a far flung area which is some 50 km’s away from the headquarters of the Kashmir’s Frontier Kupwara District.
One of the most beautiful landscape, where the temperature remains calm, with population of 20,000, the literacy rate among thousands of people is only 0.25%.
Machil only 15 kilometres distant from the Line of Control (LoC), that divides Kashmir between India and Pakistan.
The Kashmiriyat correspondent Shabir Khan visited Machil to find that in the age of digitization remains cutoff from the rest of towns merely due to ailing status of education, communication, electricity, health sector and Road Connectivity.
The Ailing Education
The People of Machil Sector sharing their pain said there are only four Primary schools and one higher secondary in which only three staff members are posted, making the students suffer.
A Young native, Ashiq Hussain speaking to The Kashmiriyat said, “We are lacking basic education here, I pursued my studies upto 12th and then i had to work as a labourer and save money for my further studies, i had to travel hundreds of kilometres away to receive higher education.”
He added, that in the Machil area of Kupwara, there are only two schools and one higher secondary, where only three staff members are deputed and due to lack of basic education children here remain cut off from what is happening around the world.
Digital India- Where?
Due to lack of communication people here are unable to get in contact with the other villages and are unaware about what is happening anywhere else, students here do not know about the computer system and mobile.
“When we move to Srinagar, it seems to us that we are in some foreign city. Everything in the area is a mess, the roads, connectivity and hospital, ” the Sarpanch of the area, Habibullah with grief about the situation and non availability of each basic facility told The Kashmiriyat.
He said that the people do not know how to use internet and other communication devices due to dump networks.

He added that the road which leads to Machil from Kupwara never got macdimization, the government once approved to do so, but due to corruption in each department, it lead to defunct system of road and connectivity and the residents have to walk by foot on harsh stoned road to reach our homes.
“The Construction of the electricity poles begun to half of way but due to poor response by government officials the poor work has been done and weather conditions here are wet most of the time, snowy, rainy and windy by which they got damaged and only 30% repairment has been done as of yet.”
“In winters, there is no traffic other than Army choppers available,” He told The Kashmiriyat.
Ailing Healthcare
The Machil area residents most complain of the ailing health services. “Most of the patients died without treatment due to poor health system here as one National primary health Centre with the presence of three staff members,” a resident said.
“The PHC has one doctor who BUMS but has to work as a general physician plus treating for everything even as dental problems.”
The residents told The Kashmiriyat that the development has been confined to cities merely and areas like them never receive any media attention.
They further told that in they are being neglected by every government and administration.
The DDC (District Development Commissioner) Kupwara Anshul Garg upon being contacted by The Kashmiriyat said that transmission department is working on that and hopefully will recover soon.
About Health he said that Government has also started recruitment policies, so the vacancies will get filled up soon.
About Communication he said that due to security guidelines issued by government of India has lead to difficulty in networks, since it is located near LoC and transmission of networks is making things poor.
