No Let up in South Kashmir Militancy- More Youth Continue to Join

A few days after the Kiloora encounter in South Kashmir’s Shopian District in which five Militants including a top commander of Lashkar e Taiba were killed, as many as seven local youth have posed with a Gun.

The Photograph of a young man named Adil Ahmed Wani son of Maznoor Ahmed Wani, a resident of Padgampora in Awantipora area of Pulwama District joined Militant outfit Lashkar e Taiba.

Another young boy, Amin who was working as a distributor for Khyber Milk and is an orphan also joined Militant outfit lashkar e Taiba, he is from Pampore area.

In April, A scholar identified as Zubair Ahmed Wani, Son of Mohammed Afzal Wani, a Resident of Dehruna Anantnag has posed with a Gun on social networking.

A relative of zubair told The Kashiriyat that zubair has pursued M.Phil from Dehradun Colllege and was now preparing from teacher examinations.

Zubair is survived by 3 Sisters, a Younger Brother (labour by profession) and old Aged parents.

He added that among three sisters two are married however among the two one is widow with two childs as her husband died recently left behind.

Mohammed Ishaq, cousin of zubair told The Kashmiriyat that on Thursday 3 pm on 19 April, zubair said that he was going to Srinagar to visit a friend and he will be back after taking part in teacher examinations on Saturday.

After the encounter of 25 July in Islamabad (Anantnag) township, Three youth from Islamabad (Anantnag) District in South Kashmir who had gone missing in the past month have posed with Guns announcing their entry into Militant outfit, Lashkar e Taiba.

Tariq Ahmed Khan son of Nazir Ahmed Khan who had gone missing after encounter at his home on 25 July this year in Lal Chowk Locality of Islamabad (Anantnag) has posed with an AK 47 and announced his entry into the Militant organisation.

Basit Ahmed Mir son of Ishtiyaq Ahmed Mir, who was a Bsc Ist year student who had gone missing last month has also joined Lashkar e Taiba.

He is a resident of Pushwara locality in Khanabal area of Islamabad (Anantnag) district.

Waris Ahmed Malik son of Bashir Ahmed Malik, a resident of Moman area in Arwani area of South Kashmir’s Islamabad has also announced his entry into Militant organisation Lashkar e Taiba. As per viral photograph his code name is Abu Dujana.

Another youth namely Muzamil Ahmad Magray son of Mohammad Afzal Magray resident of watoo Manzgam kulgam has also released his picture while carrying gun on social networking sites. His code name as per photograph is Rizwan.

Waseem Ahmed Rather son of Bashir Ahmed Rather, who was a Ph.D Scholar posed with an AK 47 in May and announced that he has joined the Militant outfit Hizb. The photograph was released in late May after he went missing from his home in Ashmuji area of Kulgam district in South Kashmir.

As per data available to The Kashmiriyat at least 132 youth have joined Militant ranks so far making 2018 the year of highest Militant recruitment in the recent past.

The Kashmir valley has been seeing a constant rise in the number of Militant recruitment after the fall the summer uprising of 2010.

Reports estimate that as many as 467 local youth have become militants out of whom them 335 have come from 247 villages in South Kashmir.

A report by Indian agencies has spotlighted the spread of the militancy that was quelled in 2010, but surged after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani on July 8, 2016.

The report reveals that Pulwama district in South Kashmir tops the list, with 142 local youth from having joined militancy since 2010.

Youth announcing their joining into Militant ranks through photos on Social Networking has become a trend in Kashmir.

After the Ist April Encounters in South Kashmir, more youth are announcing their entry into Militant Ranks.
Post the encounter of Burhan wani on 08 July, 2016, South Kashmir has turned into the epicenter of what many call as ‘New Age Militancy.’
