The decades-old Khanqah of Syed Sakhi- a Sufi saint was burnt in a massive fire incident in the Nowshera area along the National Highway Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Saturday afternoon panic and grief gripped the Nowshera area when massive flames erupted from the Khanqah.

The Locals tried to douse of the flames, however to no avail.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, They said that no fire service vehicles reached the area. He said that the village lacks basic facilities. “People in towns and in Srinagar think that we have reached the zenith of development, but here we will burn to ashes and nobody will be able to do anything to bring the fire under control.”

“The locals could not do anything but watch their spiritual center turn into ash,” a local said, as he broke into tears.

Though the Fire and Emergency Department said that they reached the spot, but the structure could not be saved.
