A non-local on Sunday allegedly tried to set a house on fire in the Pampore area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The daughter of the house owner Humaira told the media in Srinagar that their employee who is a non-local set ablaze their house on the night of Sunday and Monday.

She said that the non local who identified himself as Sahil from Nepal worked in their hotel. “He showed us all documents which were fake and his real name is Shakti. He told us that he has no one back home but he has some relatives in Pulwama،” Humaira said۔

She said that Shakti has stolen several things at their store which were found at his room,  adding, at around 1:14 a.m, he set ablaze a room first which the family checked through the CCTV footage.

“We woke up around 2 A.M. We thought that he was still inside his room and my father tried to take him out but the fire was spreading to the other room also. Later we came to know that he was not inside.”

He intentionally tried to set ablaze our house, she alleged.”We saw everything on the CCTV footage and in the morning we filed a complaint but police pay no heed till now,” Humaira alleged.

She alleged that the family has also recorded a video when they searched his room on that day. “We asked him to leave the rented room several times, but he refused to do so,” she claimed.

The family has appealed the police and officials to intervene into the matter and trace the accused, who she said, is still on the run.
