Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday claimed to have arrested a notorious drug peddler in Srinagar and recovered contraband substances from his possession.
In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a police spokesman said that a police party of Police Station Zadibal led by SHO Zadibal under the supervision of SDPO Zadibal at a checkpoint established near Mill Stop Zadibal intercepted a person identified as Dawood Shafat Mir, son of Shafat Mir of Nowshera Soura.
During checking, the officers were able to recover contraband substances from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody, police said.
Accordingly, police said that a case under FIR number 32/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Zadibal and investigation has been initiated.
Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighborhood. “Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt with as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said—(KNO)
