The number of the arrests made in the days after the recent civilian killings has surpassed 700 as per a report by NDTV.
According to the report, the Government forces have detained over 700 people in Jammu Kashmir, Several of those detained are allegedly linked to banned outfits including JKLF and Jamaat e Islami. Many of them are suspected over-ground workers (OGW) to militants.
Most of the arrests have been carried down in South Kashmir.
Quoting a senior officer, the report added that the arrests were made to “break the chain of attacks in the (Kashmir) Valley”.
The attacks may have been fueled by an increase in extremism following the Taliban’s rise in Afghanistan.
The murders have sparked outrage in Kashmir Valley, with opposition leaders fiercely critical of the administrations’ inability to stop the attacks and locals living in fear.
