Sayyad Hassan Ahmed from Cuttack village, Odisha, faces charges of making “derogatory remarks” against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Adityanath and some other religious leaders on social media.
All the way from UP(Uttar Pradesh) , a team of UP police has arrested and taken on transit remand of Ahmed from a Cuttack village, Odisha . According to Kuldeep Panchal, a Vishwa Hindu Parishad member’s complaint at the Singhawali Ahir police station of Uttar Pradesh alleging that he had received threats from a number appearing to belong to Ahmed.
After the complaint, Ahmed has been booked under Sections 124 (A), 507, 504 and 353 (A) of the Indian Penal Code.
Besides, Section 124A deals with sedition and Section 507 of IPC, dealing with intimidation
Kuldeep Panchal after getting threat calls from an unknown number asked for security from police. And that number turned out to belong to Ahmed. He had also demanded the arrest of Ahmed. For further investigation police reportedly were compelled to add charges under the other sections.
Two-member police team from Baghpat arrested Ahmed on Thursday and subsequently produced him before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Cuttack on Friday for his transit remand for interrogation. Later, CJM asked the police to produce Ahmed in the court of Judicial Magistrate of First Class (JMFC) in Salepur, where the JMFC court granted UP police four-day remand of Ahmed.
The charges under section 153A, 124A and 504 of IPC were added against Ahmed following “further investigation by UP police”.
While Ahmed’s father, Syed Rahid Ahmad, said that the number mentioned in the complaint by Panchal belonged to his son. But he said his son was innocent. “He has never threatened anyone. There has never been any case against my son in our area. And just think how far apart from each other Baghpat and Salepur are,” said.
There had never been any major complaints against Ahmed’s arrest. His family is a reputed one in the area. The inspector in-charge of Salepur police station, Nihar Mallick said there had been no criminal case against Ahmed before.
