The Kupwara district administration has launched an inquiry into a distressing incident where a pregnant woman reportedly gave birth on a roadside in the Kalaroos area.
The incident gained attention after it was captured in a video, circulating on social media platforms on February 21st, 2024, highlighting the inadequacy of healthcare services.
In response to this, Deputy Commissioner; Ayushi Sudan, issued an official statement expressing concerns over delays in snow clearance and the provision of crucial health services, which have contributed to the situation.
To determine any potential failure of duty, a three-member committee has been formed by the officials. The committee headed by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Lolab, will also include the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Kupwara, the Tehsildar of Kupwara, and the Assistant Revenue Authority (ARA) of the DC Office in Kupwara.
The primary objective of this committee is to investigate the circumstances leading to the roadside delivery, and also to identify the shortcomings, if any, in service delivery and negligence on the part of involved parties.
This committee has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation and providing a detailed report within seven days.
This incident sheds light on potential gaps in communication and services, particularly in remote areas where accessibility is a challenge.
