On Sunday morning, hundreds of locals gathered to welcome NC leadership in the central Kashmir township where a youth activist was welcomed into the party folds.

Both Mian Altaf, member parliament south Kashmir and Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi during their address appealed to the party president Omar Abdullah to contest elections from the assembly segment of Baramulla.

Omar Abdullah, had previously stated that he would not contest elections under the present structure as the powers of the assembly “have been downgraded to that of a municipality.”

Reacting to Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments on the National Conference’s manifesto, Omar Abdullah remarked, “It is interesting that the Home Minister of the country is so keen on what a small party like ours, from a small region, publishes in its manifesto.

Regarding his candidature from Ganderbal he said, “The party will decide after due consultations with the workers of the Ganderbal assembly segment.’
