Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Thursday said that more than 1,614 Jammu Kashmir policemen have laid down their lives in the past three decades while fighting Pakistan and its proxies in the Union Territory.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 10th All India Police Games Judo Cluster at the Indoor Stadium, Prabhat said the sacrifices of police martyrs stand as proof of the force’s courage and dedication.
“The JK Police has played a pivotal role in fighting the enemies of peace. Our personnel continue to work with utmost commitment to ensure public safety and stability,” he said.
The DGP said the force has remained at the forefront of counter-militancy operations and has also engaged in youth and sports outreach programmes to strengthen ties with local communities. Referring to initiatives like Jashn-e-Dal, he said such events have drawn participation from thousands of youth across districts, promoting both community bonding and talent.
Expressing gratitude to the Union Home Ministry for sanctioning ₹100 crore for sports and youth engagement, Prabhat said the support will help channel the energy of young people in constructive directions.
He also lauded the achievements of J-K policemen who have won medals at national and international events, bringing laurels to the force and the Union Territory.
Prabhat reiterated the department’s commitment to building a peaceful and progressive society founded on trust between the police and the public.
