Over 200 drug peddlers arrested in Pulwama district in 2024

Jammu Kashmir Police in Pulwama district achieved significant results in 2024, arresting over 200 individuals involved in drug peddling.

The crackdown also led to the seizure of contraband, vehicles, and properties linked to drug trafficking, Police said.

In Pulwama district alone, the Police registered 64 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, leading to the arrest of 105 people.

Six habitual offenders were detained under the preventive provisions of the PIT NDPS Act, as per Police.

Additionally, three residential properties worth over ₹59 lakh and 15 vehicles used in trafficking were seized during operations.

The quantum of narcotics recovered highlights the scale of the problem. Confiscated items included 186.30 kg of poppy straw, 78.57 kg of cannabis powder, 670.89 gm of charas, 537.67 gm of heroin, 108 bottles of codeine, and cash amounting to ₹65,600.

The Police also destroyed poppy cultivation spanning 1 kanal and 16 marlas of land.

Similarly, the Awantipora Police District registered 69 cases, with 106 individuals arrested, of whom 57 were chargesheeted.

The district’s anti-drug campaign also led to the attachment of four residential properties worth over ₹1 crore and the seizure of narcotics, including 780 gm of charas, 32.57 gm of heroin, and over 2,000 Spasmo Proxyvon capsules. Five vehicles used in trafficking were also impounded.
