A trooper shot himself dead in Kashmir capital Srinagar. It occurred inside CRPF camp in Karan Nagar Srinagar. Official sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that a CRPF Head Constable used his service rifle and shot himself dead. He was identified as Suresh Kumar of G/49 Battalion. Inspector General of Police Kashmir range Vijay Kumar Monday said that the killing of top Lashkar-e-Toiba militant Muhammad Saleem Parray was a big success for the police as the slain was involved in dozens of killings including throat-slitting of 12 civilians in 2016. “Srinagar police cornered Saleem Paray and he opened fire. In the retaliatory firing, he was killed,” IGP Kashmir told reporters as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), adding that the killing of Parray is a big success for police as he was involved in dozens of killings. “In 2016 agitation, Saleem Parray had killed 12 civilians by slitting their throats,” he said, adding that Parray was killed in an encounter at Shalimar garden in Srinagar. An encounter has started between militants and Government forces in the Gasu near Shalimar area of Srinagar, Police said on Monday. On its official twitter handle, Jammu Kashmir Police said,"Another #encounter started at Gasu near Shalimar area of #Srinagar. Police and CRPF are on the job. Further details shall follow." Earlier, a top commander of Lashkar e Taiba, Saleem Parray, a resident of Hajin Bandipora area was killed during an encounter in the same area.

A top commander of Lashkar e Taiba, Mohammed Saleem Parray of Hajin Bandipora was killed during a shootout in Srinagar's Shalimar area on Monday afternoon, Police said. They said that Saleem Parrey was a wanted militant and was involved in multiple militancy-related incidents. Locals from the Shalimar area of Srinagar said that they heard a volley of shots that created panic in the area. The Jammu Kashmir Police on Monday claimed that one militant was killed in a brief shootout in the Harwan area of  Srinagar. The Jammu Kashmir Police in a tweet said, "Srinagar police neutralised one militant dreaded of proscribed militant outfit LeT Salim Parray along with one foreign militant."
