On Thursday, the Supreme Court said that the police misuses the sedition law to frame people who speak against the government. An SC bench led by CJI N V Ramana described the British-era sedition law as "colonial". "The sedition law is a colonial law. Do we still need the law in our country after 75 years of Independence," Chief Justice NV Ramana questioned. "Sedition provision Section 124A of IPC is a colonial-era which was used to silence dissent or protest against British and was used against Mahatma Gandhi and Bal Gangadhar Tilak. 10 More Mobile phones seized in Kot Bhalwal jail in Jammu

At least 10 mobile phones were seized during a major operation carried out in the high security Kot Bhalwal jail in Jammu, officials said on Thursday. Officials told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that 17 such devices have been seized in the last 15 days inside the jail premises, of which 10 mobile phones have been seized today only. Terming the seizure of mobile phones as a serious security concern, the officials said that a high level probe has been initiated in this regard. Driver Killed, Four Others injured in Baramulla Road Accident

A driver was killed while four others sustained injuries in an accident at Zamorpattan in Uri area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Thursday. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) a Van bearing registration number JK05J-3012 skidded off the road and fell into deep nallah. The driver of the vehicle died on the spot while four others sustained injuries in the accident at Zamoorpattan Uri. Offical sources identifed the deceased as Mohammad Ismail Khan of Zamoorpattam Uri. The injured were immediately rushed to GMC Baramulla hospital for treatment where from one among them was referred to Mohra Hospital. The ministry of civil aviation (MoCA), government of India on Thursday released Draft Drone Rules, 2021 for public consultation, while seeking the public comments on the draft by August 05. To revive water transport, Bus boat launched on trial basis in river Jhelum

In a bid to revive water transport in the Kashmir Valley, a private company on Thursday launched a bus boat on trial basis in the river Jhelum. Director of the company, Sukhnag Enterprises, Imran Malik said that the bus boat procured from outside the country was launched today in river Jhelum. “We are aiming to revive water transport. On trial basis, the bus boat will ply from Lasjan to Veer Chattabal,” he said. Malik further added that they are hopeful that more such boats will be procured soon. Chirpora Residents face shortage of drinking water

The residents of Chirpora village in South Kashmir's Anantnag are up in arms against the Jal Shakti department for failing to provide drinking water in the area. The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad has arrested three more "terror suspects" linked to the alleged al-Qaeda module busted in Lucknow on Sunday, the Additional Director General (ADG) of police, Prashant Kumar said. Days after suspected Militants used armed drones to attack the Air Force Station (AIF) in Jammu, another drone was spotted in the same area in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
