Women Soldiers Deployed At Checkpoints To Bridge Gap Between Forces, Locals In Ganderbal

The army Friday deployed women soldiers at various checkpoints in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district in a bid to bridge the gap between locals and the forces. This is for the first time after North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, that the army has deployed women soldiers also known as Riffle-women in Ganderbal. Earlier, women soldiers were deployed at Kuwpara to check the infiltration of narco and weapon smuggling through women Over Ground Workers (OGWs). The villagers of Sogam in Chadoora area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district here have staged a protest against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for failing to supply drinking water to them. Witnesses told that the protesting villagers claimed the department has failed to provide drinking water supply to the villagers from last one year. “We approached the authorities many times in this regard but they always dejected us,” the residents said while appealing to the higher ups to look into the matter and ensure that their demands are fulfilled at an earliest. One Army man was killed during a Gunfight that between Militants and Government forces in the Hanjan area of Rajpora in Pulwama late on Thursday. Reports reaching The Kashmiriyat said that on Thursday night Joint forces including 44 RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF laid a joint cordon and search operation in the the Hanjan area of Pulwama. They said that as the forces reached the spot where the Militants were suspected to be holed up, the militants opened fire. The forces retaliated, according to reports. During the exchange of gunfire, one Army man and one Militant has been killed. The deceased Army man has been identified as Hawaldar Kashi of 44 RR. Jammu Kashmir reported 298 fresh covid-19 cases while four more people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, officials said on Thursday. They said 102 of the fresh cases were reported from Jammu Division and 196 from Kashmir Valley, taking the total count to 315960. Regarding the fatalities, they said, two deaths each were reported from Kashmir Valley and Jammu Division, taking the fatality count to 4327.
