Pahalgam attack: Amit Shah vows swift action, PM Modi expresses condolence

In a tragic militant attack targeting tourists in Pahalgam, Anantnag district of south Kashmir, over 12 people were injured. The incident has triggered a strong response from top government leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Expressing deep sorrow on the social media platform X, Amit Shah said, “Anguished by the terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam… My thoughts are with the families of the victims. Those behind this cowardly act will face the harshest consequences.”

Shah also confirmed he had briefed Prime Minister Modi and conducted a video conference with senior officials to assess the situation. He will be travelling to Srinagar shortly to lead a high-level security review.

Prime Minister Modi, currently on a diplomatic visit to Saudi Arabia, strongly condemned the attack. In a post on X, he wrote, “Condolences to those who lost loved ones. Praying for the swift recovery of the injured. The perpetrators will not be spared—our fight against terrorism is unwavering.”

Despite his overseas schedule, officials stated that the Prime Minister is closely monitoring the developments and has directed the Home Minister to take all necessary steps on the ground.

Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called the incident a serious escalation. “This is one of the most disturbing attacks on civilians we’ve seen in years,” he wrote on X, adding that the exact casualty count is still being verified.

The attack comes at a time when tourism in the region had been steadily recovering. The area has been sealed off, and a large-scale manhunt is underway to capture those responsible.

With heightened security measures expected in the coming hours, officials say the government is preparing a strong response to ensure safety and restore calm in the Valley.
