Pahalgam attack: Victims identified, PM Modi in key meet, Shutdown in Kashmir: Latest updates here

The 26 people, including two foreign nationals from the UAE and Nepal, and one local, who were killed in Pahalgam attack have been identified.

On Tuesday, militants opened fire at a popular tourist site near Baisaran at Pahalgam in south Kashmir on Tuesday afternoon. At least 17 persons  were injured in the attack that targeted a crowded meadow during peak tourist hours.

PM Modi Holds Emergency Meeting After Cutting Short Saudi Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an urgent meeting with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar at the airport after returning early from his trip to Saudi Arabia.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also attended the meeting to discuss the response to the Pahalgam attack.

Amit Shah Chairs High-Level Security Review in Srinagar

Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar late Tuesday and chaired a high-level security review meeting following the attack. The meeting included top officials from the J&K administration and security agencies to strategize preventive measures and responses.

NIA Team Likely to Visit Attack Site Today 

A team from the National Investigation Agency is expected to visit the Pahalgam attack site today. The team will gather forensic evidence and coordinate with local police and intelligence units as part of an initial investigation into the nature and planning of the attack.

Kashmir University and Cluster University Exams Postponed

All examinations scheduled for today by Kashmir University and Cluster University have been postponed following the attack. New exam dates will be announced separately. Schools across the region will also remain shut as per official orders.

Additional Flights Announced from Srinagar

Air India and IndiGo have announced four additional flights from Srinagar to Delhi and Mumbai on Wednesday to assist stranded tourists and citizens. Both airlines are offering full refunds and rescheduling flexibility for affected passengers till April 30.

Maharashtra Seeks Help in Repatriation of Victims’ Bodies

Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde has spoken with Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, seeking urgent arrangements to bring back the bodies of tourists from the state killed in the attack. Naidu assured full support and quick transport of the remains to Mumbai.

26 victims identified 

The list of the deceased has been officially announced. One of the the deceased was a local resident of Pahalgam. From Maharashtra, four people have lost their lives in the Pahalgam attack, including victims from Pune and Thane. Madhya Pradesh has reported one casualty. Uttar Pradesh has one victim from Kanpur. Nepal and UAE accounts for two casualties.

The states of Kerala, Haryana, Chandigarh, Bihar Orrisa.

Two of the deceased are from Karnataka, including two from Bhavnagar and one from Surat.

West Bengal has two casualties.

Andhra Pradesh or Telangana (from Vishakhapatnam region) has one deceased. Arunachal Pradesh has lost one individual who was an employee of the Airforce. Finally, Uttarakhand has reported one casualty.
