The historic Pathar Masjid in Nawa Bazar area of Srinagar was partially damaged in a mid-night fire incident on Friday.
An official told The Kashmiriyat that fire broke out in Pathar Masjid in Srinagar in which the pulpit of the masjid got fully damaged, however, the fire could not cause much damage as the Masjid is built of stone.
As soon as the news of the fire spread hundreds of locals from the nearby areas flooded the area and attempted to douse the flames along with the Local Police.
“Several Fire service vehicles reached the spot well on time and doused the blaze,” an official said.
He said that the fire was caused by a short circuit.
Built by Mughal Empress Noor Jehan, the wife of emperor Jehangir, Pathar Masjid, Unlike other mosques in the Kashmir valley does not have the traditional pyramidal roof.
