Jammu Kashmir People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Peoples Conference (PC), and independent legislator Sheikh Khurshid have submitted a separate resolution seeking special status.

This effort reinforces the stance previously taken by the Jammu Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), which passed a similar resolution in the Assembly earlier.

The new resolution, introduced by prominent leaders including Waheed Parra, on his first day in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on November 4, 2024, sharply criticizes the “unconstitutional and unilateral” actions of the Indian government in revoking Articles 370 and 35A, and enacting the Jammu Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019.

The resolution argues that these moves dismantled Jammu Kashmir’s special status, violated its constitutional protections, and stripped the region of its statehood.

The resolution calls for the immediate restoration of Articles 370 and 35A in their original form, as well as the reversal of all changes brought by the 2019 Reorganisation Act.

The signatories, which include Sajad Lone of the Peoples Conference, Waheed Parra, Fayaz Mir of PDP, and independent MLAs Sheikh Khurshid and Shabir Kullay, emphasize the importance of protecting Jammu  Kashmir’s distinct identity, culture, and political autonomy.

“This House strongly condemns the unconstitutional abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A, and demands their immediate reinstatement,” the resolution states. It further urges the Government of India to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s special provisions, ensuring its unique identity is preserved
