Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to arrive in Srinagar today to address a major election rally at the Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, Sonwar.
The roads leading to the venue have been adorned with lights and BJP flags, while security measures are in full swing.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, V K Birdhi, confirmed the deployment of extensive security arrangements for the VVIP visit, stating that such measures are crucial for both elections and high-profile visits.
This rally marks the Prime Minister’s first in Srinagar as part of the ongoing election campaign. Previously, on September 14, Modi addressed a large gathering in Doda district, Jammu.
BJP workers from across Kashmir have been mobilized to ensure significant participation at today’s event.
BJP leader Chugh, speaking to reporters in Srinagar, highlighted the preparations for Modi’s visit, calling it a “milestone event” for Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that the stadium and the city have been beautifully decorated to welcome the Prime Minister.
Chugh also emphasized Modi’s past contributions to J&K, citing improvements in infrastructure, employment, and public services like electricity and LPG access. He pointed out the introduction of financial support for elderly women, including Rs 18,000 in aid.
Chugh attributed the growing voter participation in Kashmir to Modi’s efforts since 2014, describing it as a significant shift from the disillusionment caused by the 1987 election.
He noted that polling booths, previously boycotted, now see long queues, crediting the change to the Prime Minister’s work in restoring faith in democracy.
