The Jammu Kashmir Police in Anantnag recorded significant progress in its anti-narcotics operations in 2024, registering 123 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
A total of 185 accused were arrested, with 102 individuals charge-sheeted in court. Property worth Rs 26.40 crore linked to drug-related offenses was seized, including 17 houses, 9 shops, 10 vehicles, and cash amounting to Rs 10.71 lakh.
Additionally, 255 bank accounts containing Rs 1.94 crore were frozen.
The contraband seized included 1.64 kg of brown sugar, 510.648 kg of cannabis, 2.641 kg of charas, and 510.648 kg of poppy straw.
Police also confiscated 300 strips of intoxicant tablets, 1,350 bottles of intoxicant syrups, and destroyed cannabis and poppy crops spread over 292 and 250 kanals, respectively.
Furthermore, 18 cases were registered under the Excise Act, resulting in the seizure of 7,500 bottles of alcohol totaling 3,458 liters.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anantnag, G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, reaffirmed the police’s commitment to eradicating the drug menace, urging public cooperation in tackling drug trade and substance abuse.
“The anti-narcotics drive in the district will continue in the coming year,” he assured while extending New Year greetings.
The crackdown also included 24 detentions under the Prevention of Illegal Trafficking (PIT) NDPS Act, underscoring the police’s sustained efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region.
