Police intensify checks and patrols in Kulgam ahead of August 15

Ahead of the anniversaries of August 5 and Independence Day on August 15, security has been heightened across south Kashmir’s Kulgam district to “maintain peace” and prevent any “untoward” incidents.

Acting on the directions of SSP Kulgam, and under the supervision of DySP Nasir Ahmad and SHO Kulgam Subazar Ahmad, elaborate security measures have been rolled out.

These include intensified frisking of pedestrians, thorough checking of vehicles, and increased patrolling in vulnerable areas.

The government forces have placed particular emphasis on the protection of minority communities, including Kashmiri Pandits and non-local workers.

Additional deployments have been made around residential clusters of minorities and locations with a significant presence of non-local labourers, Officials told The Kashmiriyat.

Mobile bunkers, checkpoints, and joint patrolling by the police and CRPF have been further reinforced across highways, town centres, and rural parts of the district.

“All necessary arrangements are in place to ensure peace and safeguard every citizen during this sensitive period,” a senior police officer said. “The safety of minorities and the general public remains our top priority.”

Security agencies have also appealed to the public to stay alert and cooperate during routine checks and verification procedures.
