Many poor families in the Anantnag district were ignored by the Rural Development Department (RDD) while providing shelter under Central Sponsored Scheme Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY).

Among dozens of cases is a Poor Family in the Batagund area of Dooru tehsil in Anantnag district where the family members complaining against RDD said that the department failed to provide them PMAY shed since 2017.

Ghulam Rasool Bhat Son of Abdul Gani Bhat, a resident of Batagund Veering facing health issues for the past 13 years is surviving in a tin shed along with four other members includes two daughters and a son due to the negligence and failure of RDD to provide shelter to a poor family.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat,  Bhat’s wife Sumaira said that nobody heard their pleas even after approaching concerned authorities repeatedly since 2017.

“We have appealed many times to the authorities for the PMAY shed but have been always being ignored,” she said. Bhat’s wife is the only earning hand to feed the entire family.

She visits charitable trusts and begs to feed the family members. “Our elder daughter Nargis Jan attempted suicide a few years ago due to poverty,” she told The Kashmiriyat.

She appealed to the Local trusts to help them on humanitarian grounds. “I cannot afford the educational fee and other expenses for daily livelihood. I face lot of hardships due to poverty,” she said.

They appealed to the DC Anantnag to intervene and help them by providing PMAY shed so that they do not have to suffer anymore.
