Amid bone-chilling winter, the ever looming power crisis continues taking toll over lives in Kashmir. One of the many such ordeals is that of the Gund Hassi Bhat area of Srinagar city, which has been reeling under darkness since the past five days.

The residents of the affected area while talking to The Kashmiriyat said a transformer got damaged in the area, and none from the administration came forward for repair.

“It has been four days but the transformer has not been lifted, yet,” a resident said.

Kumail Ahmed, a student of the 10th class, told The Kashmiriyat that his exams have been scheduled in the coming days. “I am struggling hard to prepare for his exams. Non-availability of electricity in the area has left everyone exhausted,” he said.

“In the last five days, no one has come forword to lift this damaged transformer,” Ahmed said.

The residents said that there’s a 250KV transformer in the area which would often get damaged. And it would often make the residents suffer during the winters as well as the summers.

Meanwhile, The Kashmiriyat contacted the Executive Engineer of PDD Budgam, who told us that that they have sent a team to the area.

“The transformer will be lifted and it will be repaired very soon,” he said.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, it was declared that the residents of Kashmir valley will have to face longer power cuts now as the Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has decided to further increase power curtailment hours.

In a presser, the KPDCL said that the non-metered areas will face power cuts of about 6 to 7.5 hours a day. While as in metered areas power cuts will last from 4.5 to 6 hours a day.

As per an earlier schedule, the non-metered areas in Srinagar will face a power cut of 3 hours a day while as the metered areas will have power curtailment of 1.5 hours a day.
