Prostitution racket busted in Srinagar area

A sex scandal has been busted in the Nowgam area of the Srinagar district of central Kashmir.

Sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Wednesday afternoon, locals of the Railway colony Nowgam area in Srinagar staged a protest against a sex scandal that was allegedly operating in the area for a long time.

A local Irshad said that they had been five people have been arrested in connection with the scandal. “Five people have been arrested from the spot. We have been closely watching this boutique for several months. A scandal is being un here for the last six months,” he said.

The Police raided the location, as per locals, and during the the operation, several individuals, including three local females and a non-local male worker, were apprehended. The building was subsequently sealed off.

An official said that three females and 2 males arrested for running a prostitution racket from a rented building of a sarpanch at Shan Mohalla, Nowgam.

In this regard, FIR 131/2023 under sections 3,4,8 of Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act has been registered at Nowgam PS., the official said.

Pertinently, there has been an increase in such incidents, Srinagar tops the list of districts where such rackets have been busted by Police.

On 3rd April,  Jammu Kashmir police on busted a prostitution racket in Srinagar which was being run from a rented accommodation at Bagh-e-Mehtab area of the capital city of Kashmir.

On April 13, another similar racket has been busted in Srinagar’s Nowgam area. Six persons have been arrested in this regard by the Police.

In Police said that six persons including two females have been arrested and a case under sections of Illicit Trafficking Prevention Act registered and investigations taken up.
