Protests Against Water Scarcity in Budgam Area

The Inhabitants of Zinipora – Dooniwora area of Chadoora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district are up in arms against the Jal Shakti department for failing to provide adequate water supply to them.

Talking to media men, the protesting residents accused the department of ignoring their plights, saying that the womenfolk from the area are being forced to walk miles to fetch water from faraway places for daily use.

They said that the area has been facing immense hardships due to the water crisis for more than four months and they are being forced to consume contaminated water as nobody is paying heed to their sufferings.

“Amid the ongoing pandemic, we have to consume contaminated water every day which puts us at high risk of contracting diseases but no one from admin pays heed to their sufferings,” said a local resident.

The protesters later appealed to the district administration to look into the matter.

Meanwhile, SDM Chadoora, Prince Noor Ul Hameed told Good Morning Kashmir that the department has already established a new pipeline in the area and they have forwarded their appeal to concerned officers.

He assured that the grievances of the locals will be redressed soon and water supply to the area will be restored as soon as possible.
