Rain predicted in Jammu Kashmir from April 26

Despite a rise in mercury at most places in Jammu Kashmir on Wednesday, officials reported that night temperatures continued to remain below normal.

A meteorological department official said that the city recorded a minimum temperature of 7.0°C, compared to 8.2°C the previous night, marking a deviation of 1.9°C below normal for this time of year.

In Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, the minimum temperature was recorded at 7.2°C, compared to 5.4°C the previous night, registering a deviation of 0.3°C below normal.

Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 3.6°C, compared to 2.4°C the previous night, marking a deviation of 0.4°C below normal.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of 7.7°C, compared to 5.5°C the previous night, showing a deviation of 0.1°C above normal.

Kupwara town recorded a low of 6.7°C, compared to 6.2°C the previous night, with a deviation of 0.9°C below normal.

In Gulmarg, the famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the minimum temperature was recorded at 2.5°C, compared to 1.0°C the previous night, marking a deviation of 0.8°C below normal.

For Jammu, the winter capital of J&K, the minimum temperature was recorded at 18.6°C, compared to 19.1°C the previous night, indicating a deviation of 2.4°C below normal.

Meanwhile, Banihal recorded a low of 8.6°C, Batote 9.7°C, and Bhaderwah 7.1°C, the official said.

Regarding the forecast, the official mentioned that until April 25, generally dry weather is expected, but afternoon thundershower/hailstorm activity at isolated places cannot be ruled out.

From April 26-28, there is a possibility of generally cloudy weather with light to moderate rain and light snow (over higher reaches) with thunder at most places.

From April 29-30, generally cloudy weather with light rain with thunder at many places has been predicted. Generally dry weather has been forecast from May 1-3. (GNS)
