Religious centre used for BJP event in Srinagar, claims Muslim cleric; BJP denies allegations

Expressing anguish, the president of Itehad ul Muslimeen has on Wednesday claimed that the Bhartiya Janta Party used an Imam bargah in Srinagar for an event of PM Modi, a claim the Bhartiya Janta Party has denied.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, a member of Itehad ul Muslimeen said that a religious centre called Hussaini centre located in Balhama area of Srinagar was used by BJP for a political event, which is not acceptable to the Muslims of Jammu Kashmir.

He said that the Hussaini centre Balhama is used only for religious events.

Quoting the chairman of Itehad ul Muslimeen, Moulana Masroor Abbas Ansari, he said that the repeated attempts to provoke Kashmiri muslims will soon turn to be counter productive.

‘Our religious centres are not for electoral politics or the politics that is meant to commit a genocide of Muslim identity,” he said.

“Using Imambargah for politics & putting up a screen in this holy place to shout slogans of Modi & Jaishree Ram is a great tragedy which is less to be condemned. This is an utter insult to this sacred place and such a sad tactics by miscreants cannot be tolerated,” Moulana Masroor tweeted.

However, Bhartiya Janta Party leader and DDC member Balhama Engineer Aijaz Hussain has denied the claims and said that “vested” interests are using “fake propaganda” to defame the party.

Denying the allegations, he told The Kashmiriyat that the photos being circulated on social media were clicked during PM Modi’s recent programme ‘Mera booth sab se mazboot’ but some people are using these images to spread misinformation.

He claimed that the programme was conducted at the home of one booth workers of the party. “Such flags are hoisted at the home of every member of the community. It is not an image from the Imam Bargah,” he said referring to the flags visible in the images now viral on social media.
