Sarjan Barkati, as per his family, has been arrested by the Police, from his house in the Reban area of Shopian district of South Kashmir late on Saturday morning.
A family member of Barkati told The Kashmiriyat over the phone that the Forces entered into the house of Barkati in Reban around 6:45 AM and detained the religious cleric.
He said that Barkati has been arrested by the Police for reasons unknown. “We do not know why he has been picked up,” the family member said.
Barkati has been arrested twice in the last two years. Earlier he was booked under the Public Safety Act in 2016, only to be released after four years
Earlier two prominent clerics Abdul Rashid Dawoodi and Mushtaq Ahmed Veeri from south Kashmir were picked up by the police and booked the the public safety act.
