Renowned Islamic activist Imran Ghazali passes away in Srinagar

Noted Islamic activist, Imran Ghazali passed away at his residence in Srinagar on Monday morning.

His close aides spoke to The Kashmiriyat over the phone and said that Imran faced a sudden heart attack on Sunday morning at Nowgam area of Srinagar.

The 29-year-old was rushed to the nearby hospital, however, he breathed his last on the way to the hospital.

Imran Ghazali who was associated to the Gazali movement Srinagar, named after famous Islamic theologist, Imam Ghazali, worked enthusiastically for spreading the message of Sufi Islam in the Kashmir valley.

He worked door to door to campaign against the drug abuse and rising crimes in the Kashmir valley, his aide said.

“Imran was worried about the rising crime in our society but he never lost hope in fact, he decreased the use of social media which was his powerful tool and rather started a door to door campaign against the rising crimes. He also went to colleges, schools, tuition centres and other educational institutes delivering messages and distributing pamphlets against the growing drug abuse and crime rate,” he said.

He said that Imran was engaged with various Islamic groups since an early age and took keen interest in learning and later propagating the same message among younger generation of Kashmir.

Imran’s untimely demise has devastated a lot of his friends other than the family. “Many of the young people he helped have been thronging to his residence since the news of his death spread,” his aide told The Kashmiriyat.
