In Kulgam, a village has survived without water supply for 1 year, residents aghast
“Are not we humans? Don’t we deserve to get basic facility such as water”, said the locals expressing their difficult situation. “We are already aware about the issue; Area will get full water supply within 2-3 days”, said Exen Jal Shakti.
Banimullah (Herpora) village in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district is without water supply, shockingly, for the past 15 months.
With around 100 households, Banimullah village is just 8 km from the main town. But, according to locals, the village has been struggling without water supply for the 15 months.
“We are being deprived of the basic necessity at a time when people in other parts of the world enjoy all modern facilities. But residents are made to suffer on daily basis,” said a resident, Altaf Ahmad.
Another resident said women from the village are forced to walk on foot for miles on daily basis to fetch water from nearby streams.
The villager said each time they have approached the authorities from the Jal Shakti (PHE) with their problem several times, but do not take the necessary actions.
“Except assurances we haven’t got anything so far. In fact, with each passing day our problems have escalated,” said the villager.
They have appealed to the administration to look into the matter and to provide them with drinking water facility so that we can have a sigh of relief.
When Contacted Executive Engineer Jal Shakti (PHE) Kulgam; Nawaz Ahmad, he acknowledged the issue and said he had already sent the team there, adding that within 2-3 days the area will get full water supply.
