Restrictions imposed in Baramulla villages for 28th Safar

Authorities in Baramulla have imposed restrictions in Gund Khwaja Qasim, Kanterbugh, and adjoining areas of Singhpora, Sub Division Pattan, in connection with the observance of 28th Safar.

District Magistrate Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, said Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS)-2023 has been enforced, prohibiting gatherings of four or more people, processions, use of loudspeakers without permission, and carrying of firearms.

The restrictions will remain effective from 8:30 PM on August 22 until 9:30 PM on August 23.

Officials said the order was issued after police and civil administration inputs warned of possible law-and-order issues, citing past confrontations between rival groups that led to police cases in Pattan and Magam.

Reports from the Senior Superintendent of Police and Sub Divisional Magistrates of both areas recommended maintaining status quo.

The Principal District and Sessions Court Baramulla had also directed that gatherings on 28th Safar should not be permitted to avoid disturbances.

Calling the restrictions “precautionary,” the District Magistrate said the move aims to safeguard life and property while ensuring communal harmony.
